This month, I wandered into a fake marriage, reunited long-lost lovers, dabbled in forbidden territory, and watched feelings bloom where they definitely shouldn't. July had all the tropes I love most. ☕💞

📖 Love & Other Words by Christina Lauren

This book wrecked me in the softest way.

High school sweethearts reconnect after years apart, and everything that wasn’t said… finally bubbles to the surface.

✨ Trope moments: old letters, bookstore nostalgia, one bed (of course), and undeniable longing.

💒 Fake Dating / Marriage for a Cause

📖 Till Summer Do Us Part by M. C. Frank

He needs something to do. She needs a husband. Cue the most convincing fake couple I’ve read in a while.

This one had a modern edge with classic trope magic — plus, some summer charm.

✨ Trope moments: contract relationships, real feelings sneak in, slow burn galore.

🚫 Forbidden Love

📖 My Return to the Walter Boys by Ali Novak

She’s the girl they took in. He’s the boy she absolutely should not fall for.

It’s angsty, chaotic, and packed with “I shouldn’t want you but I do” moments.

✨ Trope moments: secret pining, loyalty tested, slow-burn chaos.

🧁 Final Thoughts

Here’s what July taught me:

  1. I will always fall for a fake dating trope.
  2. Second chance romance? Still undefeated.
  3. Forbidden love makes everything feel 10x more intense.
  4. Marriage of convenience has officially entered my comfort trope zone.
