Some romance tropes make my heart race, while others make me want to toss my book across the room. Today I’m brewing up a list of tropes I’ll always say yes to… and the ones I’d rather leave on the shelf.

✅ Love It (Green Flags)

Enemies to Lovers
The tension, the banter, the eventual “oops I actually like you” moment—it never fails.

Fake Dating
That moment when the pretending stops and the feelings sneak in? Pure magic.

Grumpy x Sunshine
One character melts the other’s walls with kindness and stubborn love… chef’s kiss.

Sports Romance
Competitive banter, locker room drama, and victory kisses? I’m in every time.

🚩 Leave It (Red Flags)

Love Triangle
It always feels like heartbreak for someone, and I usually root for the wrong one.

Amnesia Plotlines
The memory-loss reset button? Not my favorite way to build a romance.

Cheating as a Plot Device
Instant deal-breaker—there are so many other ways to create conflict!

Secret Baby
Unless it’s done really well, I usually check out.
