Rebecca Yarros Announces Threshing Day! (⚠️ Minor references to the Empyrean series. No major plot spoilers.)
We're Going Back to Basgiath! Everything We Know About Threshing Day
If you had "new Empyrean announcement" on your 2026 bingo card... congratulations!
Rebecca Yarros officially surprised readers by announcing Threshing Day, a brand-new Empyrean novella arriving this September. Before anyone starts hyperventilating (I know I almost did), this is not Book Four.
Instead, Threshing Day is giving us something just as exciting—a chance to return to Basgiath while Rebecca continues writing the next installment in Violet's story.

What Is Threshing Day about ?
According to Rebecca Yarros, Threshing Day is a collection of thirteen stories that will be centered around Threshing - (The unforgettable day when dragons choose their riders.)
These stories will feature some of our favorite characters and their dragons, giving readers a chance to experience different bonding moments across Basgiath.
For longtime fans, this is exciting because Threshing is one of the most important events in the entire Empyrean universe. It's the moment that changes everything.
The Deluxe Edition (I know I preordered mine)
As if thirteen new stories weren't enough...
The deluxe first edition will also include 16 original full-color illustrations by artist Joe Requeza.
As someone who loves displaying special editions on my bookshelf, I already know I'm going to need this version.
Xaden Fans (Like me!) , You're Covered
Rebecca also confirmed that "Xaden's bonus chapter" will be included in Threshing Day.
Don't worry she also shared that it would continue to be available on her website.
My Thoughts
Honestly...
I have been waiting months for this and kept checking social media today since Rebecca's post about Conscription Day!
My theory was definitely that we would be receiving ether the 12 hours we lost in Onyx Storm, OR our dear Liam's letters to Sloane
Was I slightly disappointed for about five seconds? Absolutely.
But after reading what Threshing Day actually is, I'm genuinely excited.
One of my favorite parts of the Empyrean series has always been learning about the dragons and the bonds they form with their riders. Those moments are emotional, unforgettable, and often completely life-changing.
Getting thirteen different Threshing stories feels like the perfect way to revisit Basgiath while Rebecca takes the time, she needs to write Book Four.
And let's be honest...
Any excuse to go back to Basgiath is a good one.
Cover Reveal
I absolutely love this cover.
The silver color palette immediately stands out from the other books while still fitting perfectly with the series.
Then there are the tiny dragons flying around the design...
And that simple little phrase at the top:
"Don't Die."
If you've read the series, you know those two words perfectly capture life at Basgiath.
My Predictions (Just for Fun!)
These are purely my guesses, but here's what I'd love to see:
🐉 More of Mira's journey.
🐉 Liam's Threshing (please... my heart can handle it... or not).
🐉 Ridoc because we all need more Ridoc.
🐉 Rhiannon and her dragon.
🐉 Some of the marked ones before Fourth Wing.
🐉 More dragon personalities (we can never have enough Tairn-level sass.. I know I can't)
Romance in the Coffee Rings Coffee Pairing
✨ The Silver Dragon Latte
If Threshing Day were a coffee order...
- Dark mocha latte
- A little vanilla for warmth
- Silver shimmer (edible glitter if you're feeling fancy!)
- Whipped cream because dragons deserve drama
It's cozy, a little magical, and perfect for reading about Basgiath.
Let's Talk!
I'll definitely be picking this one up on release day.
Now I want to hear from you...
🐉 Which character are you hoping gets a Threshing story?
🐉 Are you buying the deluxe edition?
🐉 And were you tricked into thinking this was Book Four?
I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
